Don't you hate it when....

your laptop crashes on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ug!!! But I guess it's about time. I got that laptop back in 2005, so I've had it for about 4 years. Pretty good I would say for having technology made back then.

That laptop and I have been through a lot together. Mexico, Holland, Whidbey Island, work and tons of other places. We've downloaded music together, myspaced, facebooked, gmailed and looked up sports! That laptop even helped me create my first resume that got me all the jobs I have gone for...and with it, I succeed at getting hired for all of them.

But now laptops these days are expensive. Sure, I could go for a PC which are cheap, somewhere around $400-$600. But, they get viruses, you have to keep updating them for virus protection which costs money, and for updates on other programs. They're nimble, pathetic and don't last as long as an Apple.

Macs on the other hand (which is what I had), are incredible. They update themselves automatically...and for FREE! There are no worries about viruses. And their programs are way cooler and simpler than a PC. So, what I'm getting at is that, I'm sticking with a Mac, just gotta get the money first...hopefully soon!!!

Until then...

Nederland for the First Time...

Welkom in Nederland

INCREDIBLE!!! That is probably the best word to describe my recent trip to the Nederlands, more commonly known as Holland. Last week, I went on somewhat of a whim, a last minute adventure to the land Orange. Arriving in Amsterdam, I was greeted by my wonderful aunt and her daughter and daughter's boyfriend, who all had ear to ear smiles. I was so happy to be in Amsterdam and to see far distant relatives was like feeling every organ in my body jump up inside of me for joy.

In the next series of posts, I will attempt to illustrate my story of of a weekend trip to Holland, to family and new friends. Keep checking in and hopefully, I'll have some good stuff posted soon!!!

Bedankt!

The Status Quo

I have recently had a small exchange with one of my friends from grade school about the surprise I had she had gone from being a conservative mind to liberal. I was surprised at first to hear that she had changed. Last that I had heard she had all these conservative views from back in high school and now to see her flipping a 180 really got me intrigued.

We exchanged for a minute; she telling me that she felt like everyday she had to "shake up the cages of the status quo". And that got me thinking. I loved how that sounded and how true it was in my life as well. Everyday, I wake up thinking about my day and how I can help someone better themselves and show them that there are more possibilities out there than they think. Too many times, people are clouded by the status quo and just stick to the regular routines. But if we can really think outside the box, or encourage and educate people that there are more solutions and more lifestyles than just the standard path, the world can change. Not just change in the fact that something was moved. But change in the way that innovation and creativity have taken over and invented a whole new way of life for an individual or a group.

Too many times, our educators, mentors, peers and elitists tell us that we must do it their way. That because it's been like that for years, it has to stay that way or else you would disrupt the balance in the force. But I say, let's change! Let us be imaginative. Let us experience other lifestyles that can be liberating and educating. Let someone learn responsibilities, creativity and success through the prism of opportunities. Why must we be forced to see things black and white. That would be a pretty boring world.

There is a movie called "Acceptance" where high school graduates create their own institute because they couldn't get into a school anywhere else. At this institute, the students are the teachers and create their own curriculum as they learn the fine arts, engineering, business, career goal planning and success all through using their own imaginative creativity. They didn't use the standard text books or conform the to the traditional values of a traditional university. They invented a way to learn and experience education through a whole new diagram that still preaches the core value of life: education, opportunity, individualism, creativity and success.

If we can be people with the mind to branch out, we can change the face of the earth. If we can preach social justice, equality, diversity and inalienable rights then we can truly live in a society where we are not judged for being gay, african-america, asian, liberal or conservative, christian, muslim, hindu or whatever. If we can learn to live in a society of acceptance for the differences each one of us possess, and see those differences as a treasure, then we can truly live as humans. Desmond Tutu once said, "A person is a person, once he sees others as a person." A person is not described by their culture, race, disability, religion or sexual orientation. We should see each other as neighbors, friends and allies. Humanum amare est - To love is human.

Happy New Years Everyone!!

Welcome to 2009! Last year was great, but I know that each of us is headed for better things in the next 12 months.

Last year, I made new friends and increased old friendships. I even got a new girlfriend who loves me so much, I couldn't ask for anything more. I've even grown into my own, sort of, with taking on more responsibilities at work. A few times a week, I reflect on how I got to where I am today, and I even amze myself. I'm not trying to brag, but I guess, I'm just thankful for the gifts in my life and the way things have unfolded for me. I'm sure that you could reflect on the past year just as I have and find many good things.

In the upcoming year, many people make resolutions, goals or promises to ones self to improve their own life styles. This year, I have several things I would like to accomplish, or at least get my foot in the water if possible.

1) Work out more...this seems like a popular resolution every year as well as this one. For me, getting out and getting physically fit is something that I will stive for this year and would like to carry over into following years. I can remember back in high school and the first few years after high school when I was physically in shape. I would work out everyday, jog, run, lift weights, play basketball or soccer and stretch. I want to do more of that and I will.

2) No soda, more H20...I did this resolution my senior year of high school, and I got through 6 months and caved in. I know that soda is unhealthy and I know it actually dehydrates your body. This year, I know I can make it and drink only water and 100% juice.

3) Save money...I have a small nest egg to start out with, but in the next 6 months, I won't have the job I have now. I want to be prepared for the worst. I want to be able to live semi-comfortbaly in the event that I cannot find a job after June.

These are some of my goals for this year, among many other smaller goals. Some of the smaller ones include continueing with my Bachelor's degree at a university. At the moment, I am thinking of UW, Gonzaga, Northwest and Western Washington. Other smaller ones include being a better communicator and understander of other people's ideas and view points. I believe and I know that I and great at listening and talking to people and understanding what they are trying to tell me. But, there is always room for improvement and I want to keep bettering myself in those areas to make myself a better person to serve others.

In the end, resolutions are to make you a better person. It could be for personal benefit (which a majority tend to be) or it coul be to benefit others or even both. Regardless why you decide to have a resolution, I am just glad that you want to start somewhere. Improvement in one way, shape or form is a great thing, and I want to congratulate you on the desire to improve. Yay for you!

Happy New Years and best to you!!!
